Yeah - I know it's awful and broken in places. I'm working on a new version right now, so please bear with me.

The Downstairs Remodel

We knew that after the Kitchen we would have to do the Living Room (Which is all that is left downstairs).  We had the idea to stain the concrete in the Kitchen, but Michael had the great idea to do the entire downstairs.  It was a LOT of work, but the results are incredible.  Take a look...

Living Room (Before)

This is when we still had carpet and a popcorn ceiling. NOT for long!!

Living Room (Before)

More... The color on the walls were failed tests for the finished walls. You'll have to see what they become.

Living Room (Before)

More of the same...

Picture of the ceiling. Notice the ugly popcorn. The ceiling fan will be dealt with also.

Floors have begun

We pulled up the first piece of carpet and under the padding was TONS of dirt. Looked like a kids sandbox. It was DISGUSTING!!!

Floors have begun

Same dirt. Notice the tack strips and remaining dining room tile. (Gray with pink grout!). Yuck!!!

Floors have begun

Michael is disgusted at the dirt. New rule!!! NO MORE CARPET - EVER!

Floors have begun

More dirt by the front entry

Now all the carpet and pad is up. Yes, that's all dirt. Carpet is disgusting.

Floors in progress

MANY DAYS HAVE PASSED... We spent days and hours scrubbing, grinding, cleaning and patching. The floors look great now. We're ready to start staining, but we need to let the patch cure.

Ceilng work

While waiting for the floors to finish curing, we decided to remove the ceiling. Thanks goes to Ron Hazelton. I saw his show on how to do this, and this is our third successful time to do it.

Ceilng work

More - It's still wet in the pictures.

Ceilng work

More - a small bit of damage near the intake vent. Easily fixed.

Ceilng work

It is a HUGE mess, but worth it. Wet and yucky!

Ceilng work

There's Mike after the mess is down (and all over him)

Ceilng work

Michael working hard to finish the ceiling removal. Isn't he a trooper?!

Ceilng work

Oh, My now what to do? I'm such a trooper and need to keeping trooping.

Ceilng work

After the cleanup - Which is EASY! Just roll up the plastic and paper and you're done.

Ceilng work

More after cleanup.

Ceilng work

A Dead Body??!!! Nope, just our dead ceiling. This is the remains of the popcorn ceiling. This shows how easy it is to cleanup. Some lucky dumpster is going to get a big present. :)

Ceilng work

Look Corri - Isn't my work FABULOUS?!

From the hanging of plastic to the removal of the dead ceiling, the removal took 4 hours.

Stain Floors

We began staining the floors. It's hard to be banished from the entire downstairs of your house for hours at a time.

Stain Floors

Mikey removing his little booties after the 2nd coat of stain. Gross huh? It smelled awful too!
